Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to Bring Environmental Sustainability Message to 2009 BC Land Summit

Thomas Berger and others to discuss land use in British Columbia

WHISTLER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - May 19, 2009) - Environmentalist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and prominent former Supreme Court Justice Thomas R. Berger headline a distinguised roster of speakers at the 2009 BC Land Summit in Whistler, May 20-22.

The Land Summit is an interdisciplinary conference organized by six professional organizations, all of which share ties to land use in British Columbia.

"Now more than ever it is important for professionals in land-related fields to work together to ensure the sustainable, long-term health and viability of this province's environment, resources, economy and communities," said Duane Bates, Chair of the 2009 BC Land Summit.

The conference program will be keynoted by four distinguished experts in land-use issues. It will feature over 100 presenters and panelists representing the public and private sectors, local, regional, provincial and First Nations governments, in a wide variety of fields, including:

- planning and land use,

- landscape architecture,

- land conservation,

- agriculture,

- real estate and land valuation,

- urban design.

The theme for the 2009 BC Land Summit is A Better Future: Adapting to Change. This theme recognizes the many different processes of change - from the global to the local - affecting land, land-use, and communities' relationships with the land. It also adopts a positive, future-oriented perspective that recognizes the valuable and important need for adaptation as we move forward in the face of change.

"The delegates at this conference are the people who will be informing many of the decisions about how BC develops, grows and adapts to change," said Bates. "This is an opportunity to share the information they need to make the right decisions."

- The host partner organizations for the 2009 BC Land Summit include:

- The BC Association - Appraisal Institute of Canada
