"There are a profound set of emotions when you leave college -- excitement and sometimes fear. There is also a little sadness when you look back at your empty dorm room as you leave for the last time," Mr. Bowie added. "Students work incredibly hard to get into college and earn their degrees. I want to say to Harvard graduates, and to all 2010 graduates, congratulations on your hard work. Reach out to alumni, mentors and friends. We're here to help you."

Mr. Bowie is currently the First Vice President of the HAA and has previously served as Vice President of Engagement and Marketing and College Affairs. Mr. Bowie also received an Excellence Merit Award for Baltimore County on behalf of his work with the Early College Awareness program which he started in the 1990s. Over the last 20 years the Early College Awareness program has spread across the US.

"We're very excited to have Bob as our next President," said Philip Lovejoy, Deputy Executive Director of the Harvard Alumni Association. "He has been an outstanding volunteer and leader at Harvard for many years. We're looking forward to working with him on his vision for a more connected alumni network."
