Roberts Joins BeneCard PBF: Cites Much Needed Change in How the Pharmacy Benefit Is Managed

ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwire - September 14, 2010) -  Richard Ullman, Chairman of Benecard Services, Inc. is pleased to announce that Bruce T. Roberts, former CEO of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) has joined Benecard Services, Inc. as the President and CEO of the Prescription Benefit Facilitator (PBF) company. Benecard Services, Inc. is a leading Prescription Benefit Manager, based in Orlando, Florida with offices in Mechanicsburg, PA, Lawrenceville, NJ and Clifton, NJ.

"I am very excited that Bruce has decided to join us at BeneCard PBF," Ullman said at a recent Board of Directors' meeting. "His understanding of pharmacy and the role of the pharmacist, as well as his long-term advocacy for much needed change in the PBM industry, make him uniquely qualified to lead our company. BeneCard PBF is determined to see that the value of the pharmacy benefit including the services of a pharmacist is broadly recognized in our nation's healthcare system, and that employers and unions are able to get a transparent and fair pharmacy benefit."

As CEO of NCPA Roberts served a leading role in the pharmacy profession for the past decade, a role he accepted after 24 years as a pharmacy and homecare company owner in Northern Virginia. While at NCPA, Roberts focused the association on assuring that the Pharmacist had a strong voice in expressing the need for reform in our healthcare system. To this end, he was instrumental in the formation of Surescripts in 2001 and, until recently, served as its co-chairman. Surescripts has been instrumental in facilitating e-prescribing throughout the U.S.

Similarly, Roberts led in the development of Community CCRx in partnership with Member Health and Computer Sciences Corporation. Community CCRx is presently the 2nd largest Part D Plan in the country. In addition, Roberts was also instrumental in the formation of Mirixa, which has become the industry leader in facilitating the connectivity between the pharmacist and the payer. Roberts served as the Chairman of Mirixa since its inception in 2005.

"I see my joining Benecard Services, Inc. as a logical next step in my career," Roberts stated. "I have been a staunch critic of the abuses of the PBM industry. Because of the approach too many of the PBM's operate under, many see the pharmacist as simply the purveyor of a commodity. I feel fortunate that Richard Ullman and I share the same view, and that he is committed to change in the PBM system. I look forward to working together with him and the Benecard Services, Inc. team to reshape the pharmacy benefit management landscape with our Prescription Benefit Facilitator (PBF) model."

Benecard Services, Inc. embraces a fully transparent model with full pass through to the payer. Benecard Services, Inc. is committed to assuring proper use of prescribed medicines through clinical tools as well as through an engaged pharmacy network.
