Robie H. Harris' Acclaimed Sexual Health Classic IT'S PERFECTLY NORMAL Celebrates 20 Years This Fall

SOMERVILLE, MA--(Marketwired - October 23, 2014) - "Where did I come from?" "What is sex exactly?" Kids of all ages have questions. Lots of questions. And some are easier to answer than others.

Nobody understands this more than Robie H. Harris and Michael Emberley, whose 15th Anniversary edition of It's So Amazing: A Book about Eggs, Sperm, Birth, Babies, and Families, and 20th Anniversary Edition of the sexual health classic, It's Perfectly Normal: Changing Bodies, Growing Up, Sex, and Sexual Health, were released in September by Candlewick Press.

With over one million copies in print, It's Perfectly Normal has become one of the most trusted, iconic books for tweens and teens exploring sexual health and identity. Now, young readers who grew up with the book are starting to have children of their own. This fully updated edition features all the helpful information you've come to expect from Harris and Emberley, plus expanded material addressing topics particularly relevant to today's kids and teens: internet safety, social media, cyber bullying, gender identity, the right to say no, and the HPV vaccine. It's So Amazing also features important new and updated text and art.

These updated editions have been garnering some significant national attention this fall. The New York Times called It's Perfectly Normal "wonderful" and said, "if [a sex talk with your kids] is a conversation you're looking to start, these books, with their science-based, rigorously researched approach, make for solid footing on which to begin." NPR's All Things Considered also featured an extensive interview with Harris during Banned Books Week about the challenges these books have faced over the years. Links to the full articles are included below.

"Children at every age and stage deserve to have no less than the most up-to-date, accurate, and age-appropriate information about their bodies and about growing up," said Harris. "I wrote these books as a way to have conversations with children and their families about staying healthy." And that's just what Harris has been doing for the last twenty years. Her latest picture book, What's So Yummy?: All About Eating Well and Feeling Good, focuses on healthy eating and exercise for the stroller set. It was released in September.
