Robin Hood Issues Call for Applications for New Grant-Ready Insights and Training Project (GRIT)

Applications for Workshop-Based Program Due on August 11

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - August 08, 2016) - Robin Hood, New York City's largest poverty-fighting organization, has issued a call for applications for its new Grant-Ready Insights and Training project (GRIT) which is set to launch this fall. GRIT is a program for nonprofit organizations in the New York City metro area that seek help securing grants from sophisticated funders. GRIT applications, which can be found at www.robinhood.org/grit, are due on August 11. The program will run from October 6 to November 10, 2016.

GRIT aims to help operational nonprofits with promising models communicate their outcomes and costs effectively to funders. The program's curriculum will be based on Robin Hood's practices. It is designed for executives of social services organizations that have been operational for at least three years. Current Robin Hood grantees are not eligible to apply. Nor are nonprofits that have applied to Robin Hood for funding in the past five years.

The program includes workshops on a variety of topics, including:

  • Program Model Evaluation: Robin Hood's system of metrics changed the way foundations approach grant-making. The GRIT program will give participants a window into the steps Robin Hood takes to measure success.
  • Data Tracking: GRIT instructors will review how to identify and report the type of information that funders need to make grants.
  • Private Fundraising: Robin Hood has raised over $2 billion since its founding in 1988 and will share lessons learned. Specifically, participants will learn to identify philanthropies interested in their missions and effectively fundraise.
  • Governance and Leadership: Robin Hood's management assistance team helps place individuals on the boards of grantees and conducts board orientations covering issues from financial management to human capital. Elements of these trainings will be included in the workshops.

The workshops will tap Robin Hood staff and external management consultants to lead sessions. Robin Hood program officers will provide individualized coaching throughout the program and through early December to help groups implement what they've learned.
