Toronto Mayoral Candidate Rocco Rossi Continues to Attract Prominent People to the Growing Team

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 7, 2010) - It has been a stellar week on the campaign trail for Rocco Rossi. The week kicked off with a midnight sign blitz with dozens of volunteers painting the town red with hundreds of new sign requests coming in daily.

Mr. Rossi impressed the audience during the CityTV debate with commentators, including John Tory, agreeing that he "performed the best" (Newstalk 1010 Oct 6). Mr. Rossi also excelled at the CBC Metro Morning debate where he challenged rival Rob Ford on the issue of trust.

Rocco Rossi received accolades for his widely praised fiscal plan that is described as "clear and detailed plan on how he would balance Toronto's 2011 operating budget" Toronto Board of Trade, October 5th. On Newstalk 1010, John Tory stated that "I think he has the best reviews of those out to date...Mr. Rossi's was detailed, it was rational, it was realistic, and it doesn't have any huge holes in it."

Additionally, Rocco Rossi launched his platform book Together We Can which can be found online at Mr. Rossi excelled at the two editorial board meetings he had with major Toronto papers which earned him the respect of being the only fiscally credible candidate.

Rocco Rossi continues to build support among prominent Torontonians who continue to rally around him to bring real change to City Hall. We are pleased to announce the addition of the following distinguished community, business and cultural leaders to our team:

• Natasha Bronfman is a prominent leader and activist in the Russian community.  An experienced business executive, Ms. Bronfman is currently involved with several charitable fundraising projects, both here and abroad. Ms. Bronfman is the Secretary of Ruskoka Camp for underprivileged Russian Canadian youth. She is the event director and organizer of the Toronto Winter Palace Ball which supports underprivileged children in Toronto.

• Richard W. Ivey is the Chairman of Ivest Properties Ltd., a real estate development and management company, and the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research. He also serves as a Trustee of Newport Partners Income Fund and on the Boards of Canada Colors and Chemicals Ltd., the University Health Network, and the Ivey Foundation (formerly The Richard Ivey Foundation). Mr. Ivey also serves on the Advisory Boards of the Social Capital Partners and the Richard Ivey School of Business. He practiced law at Torys until 1982 and then spent almost twenty years in a variety of capacities in the packaging and logistics services industries. He was appointed Chairman of CIFAR's Board of Directors in 2004.

• Michael Mammoliti is an accomplished businessman. He is the president and founder of Orion Hardware Corporation. He is the exclusive North American distributor of high end Italian-made Colombo Design decorative door hardware and bath accessories, as well as Nobili faucets. Mr. Mammoliti is involved with several charitable associations such as the Sick Kids Foundation and Villa Charities throughout Toronto and North America.

Steve Masnyk is the Director of Public Affairs for the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada. He formulates and implements all federal government relations strategies for the association and is responsible for all political activity the association undertakes through its members. Prior to Mr. Masnyk's current role, he worked for the Consulate General of Japan as a political/government advisor, and for several elected politicians in Ottawa and a political party in Ottawa.

Charles Reichmann is a prominent business and community leader. He is the Founder, and CEO of Alegus Properties Corp and Alegus Capital. Prior to founding Alegus, Mr. Reichmann held senior positions at prominent Real Estate Companies such as O&Y Properties Corp, O&Y Reit and Stockton & Bush. Mr. Reichmann is actively involved in various facets of the community and sits on the board of a charitable foundation for an educational institution.

• Gerry Rocchi is a co-founder and Principal of Green Power Action Inc.. He is a director of the Investment Industry Regulatory Association of Canada, and a member of the Independent Review Committee of Burgundy Asset Management. Mr. Rocchi was Chief Executive Officer of Barclays Global Investors Canada from 1997 to late 2004. He has served as a director of the Investment Counsel Association of Canada, and as a member of the Standard & Poor's / TSX Index Advisory Panel, the Investment Funds Council advising the Ontario Securities Commission on fund regulation, the Rules Advisory Committee of Market Regulation Services Inc., and the Regulatory Committee of the Investment Funds Institute of Canada.

• Helen Lu is a community leader who is an outstanding volunteer, organizer and fundraiser for charitable groups in Toronto. Ms. Lu has been a champion of numerous causes, among them: the Canadian Unrelated Bone Marrow Donor Registry, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Daily Bread Food Bank, the Hospital for Sick Children, the United Way, and of course, the Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care & Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation. She has raised funds for flood victims in China, for famine relief in Somalia and in North Korea, and for earthquake relief in Taiwan. She has been recognized with the Outstanding Achievement Award for Voluntarism in Ontario in 1998 and the Senior Achievement Award in 2002. Ms. Lu is currently a member of the Board of Directors at the Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care. 

Toni Varone is an experienced political, business, and community leader. Mr. Varone is a member of the Labourer's International Scholarship Fund Committee (L.I.U.N.A. Local 506). He is the President of the Varone Group Inc.. Mr. Varone is the Director of the Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation and is the past Chairman of Villa Charities Inc and the Columbus Centre. He is the past Director of Northwestern General Hospital.

• Justin Poy is the President and Creative Director of The Justin Poy Agency which is a marketing and advertising agency. He is a Cabinet member and Chair of the Chinese Advisory Group for the Toronto International Film Festival. He is a member of various boards throughout the City including being Vice-Chair and Director of the Board of The Canadian Foundation for Chinese Heritage Preservation, Board member of the Ontario Media Development Corporation and a Chair of the Design and Concept Committee for Rock the Cradle 2010 for the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation.
