Rocco Rossi Rises Above the Rest

Toronto Mayoral Candidate Rocco Rossi Speaks Spanish and Wins Debate

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 6, 2010) - Rocco Rossi was the winner of the Latin American Civic Participation debate this evening as he engaged with the issues and the audience in Spanish and promised a better life for all newcomers to Toronto.

Mr. Rossi tackled the systemic issues associated with immigrant integration and poverty promising to "facilitate partnerships between multiple levels of government, while also reaching out to the private sector for paid internships and mentorship programs."

Rival Rob Ford reduced himself to stereotyping when he said that "latin kids are phenomenal athletes. You have to give them a carrot. You can't just say 'study.'" This stereotype was met with 'boos' from the audience.

It was also another "where's George?" moment as George Smitherman missed half of the debate without notice. Speaking no Spanish himself, Mr. Smitherman criticized Rossi for speaking Spanish but was booed by the audience.

Verdict: Rossi the winner, in both languages.
