Rocco Rossi's Statement on Today's Events at Central Tech High School

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 30, 2010) -

Statement: "Today the worst nightmare of every parent unfolded here at Central Tech High School.

Last night, two young people were shot and killed in Weston.

All of our thoughts and hopes are with the victims and their loved ones during this difficult time.

We haven't done enough to stop shootings like these.

At the end of August I predicted that unless we started getting tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime we were headed for an 'autumn of the gun.'

That's exactly where we have ended up.

Bobby Kennedy said that every society gets the kind of criminal it deserves and that every community gets the kind of law enforcement it insists on.

It's time to insist on better.

None of the issues in this election -- better transit, cutting waste -- matter if we don't feel safe in our streets and schools.

Now is a time for leadership. This will be an issue on the desk of our next mayor and we will need leadership we can trust to address it.

It's time to come together.

Together we can get guns off our streets.

Together we can keep our kids away from a life of crime and get them in schools and community centres.

Together we can make Toronto safe again."
