Rochester Dental Team Set for Mission Trip to Costa Rica

ROCHESTER, MN--(Marketwired - February 24, 2016) - Two doctors from Northwest Dental Group will travel to remote areas of Costa Rica in March as part of a dental mission trip.

Dr. Katie Post, Dr. Rob Vander Broek and five other staff members will work in a mobile clinic in different areas of Costa Rica from March 6 - 12. The trip will focus on providing dental care to children.

"This has the potential to be an experience of a lifetime for all seven of us. We are looking forward to working with the children in the orphanage," said Dr. Post, who operates Northwest Dental Group. "This gives us a chance to give back and create life-changing experiences with our staff." Tooth decay is the leading chronic disease in children around the world. Almost half of all children who are preschool age in Costa Rica have untreated cavities -- a problem that is more prevalent in rural areas of the country.

Costa Rica has about one dentist for every 500 citizens, but many citizens in the country's rural areas lack access to oral health care. Dr. Post said the goal of the mission trip is to educate children about the importance of oral health care and to address any dental emergencies.

"The goal is to make an impression on these children, so that they go on to practice great oral hygiene for the rest of their lives," Dr. Post said. "Our team is excited to visit this beautiful country and to share our expertise and professional advice."

Northwest Dental Group provides comprehensive services in general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, tooth extractions, Invisalign, sleep apnea treatment, sports dentistry, root canals and dental implants. The talented staff at Northwest Dental Group can replace missing teeth with dental implants or use implants to provide stability to dentures.

Northwest Dental Group is a unique Rochester dental practice as it offers several forms of sedation. The practice uses sedation techniques like oral conscious sedation and IV sedation for fearful patients or for patients who need extensive dental work.
