Rock Creek Restaurant Opens in Downtown Bethesda

New Concept Brings Flavorful, Nutritionally Balanced Food to a Restaurant Setting

BETHESDA, MD -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 1, 2005 -- Rock Creek Restaurant, one of the area's first upscale restaurants to offer a nutritionally balanced menu, has opened its initial restaurant in Bethesda, Maryland. Working in conjunction with Cynthia Payne, a local nutritionist, Rock Creek has developed a menu that will allow diners to experience a tasteful dining experience complete with appetizer, salad, entree and dessert for approximately 600 calories. The food preparation and presentation will be orchestrated by Chef Fred Przyborowski formerly of the Kennedy Center Roof Terrace Restaurant and Ardeo and Bardeo in Cleveland Park.

Rock Creek's goal, according to owners Judy Hammerschmidt and Tom Williams, is to create a dining experience that changes the way people eat by paying attention to ingredients and portions. Hammerschmidt, an international lawyer with a specialization in international food and nutrition products, believes that Rock Creek is the beginning of a trend that will make diners more mindful of what and how they eat simply by changing their perception of "comfort food. Conscious cuisine does not have to be fat free or tasteless. Diners will find that comfort food comes in surprising packages at Rock Creek."

Emphasizing that on average, Americans consume 2200 calories per meal when they dine out, Williams sees the Rock Creek concept as the answer to a nutritionally conscientious diner's quest for good food less the excess and guilt. For those diners who are curious about the calorie content and ingredients of their meals, all pertinent information will be in the back of the menu. Open for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday, the restaurant also plans to offer nutritionally balanced, take-out family dinners.
