Rocmec to Offer its Thermal Fragmentation Technology Services to the Mining Community to Extract Narrow Vein Ore

POINTE-CLAIRE, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Jan. 29, 2008) - Rocmec Mining inc. (TSX VENTURE:RMI)(FRANKFURT:D5O): Using its thermal fragmentation mining method, Rocmec performed extensive work at its Rocmec 1 mining property located near Rouyn-Noranda in the Abitibi region of Quebec, during the year 2007. The purpose of the work performed was primarily to demonstrate the substantial economic and environmental advantages of the method and to enhance the effectiveness of the thermal fragmentation mining method, but it also allowed the company to better measure the gold grades withing the mining corridors at the underground mine. Pleased with the results, the company is continuing the work in 2008.

In response to the many inquiries concerning the thermal fragmentation mining method, received on a weekly basis, the company has decided to render its services available to mining companies who seek to benefit from the method in their own operations. The positive signals provided by the market has led the company to conclude strong demand exists for its services in the following market segment. Rocmec believes the method would generate the greatest benefit for mining companies who are in production, extracting precious metals in a rich narrow vein environment. The company has begun to communicate primarily with companies who fit this profile.

The thermal fragmentation mining method aims to replace the shrinkage, room and pillar, and open stope mining methods, widely used to extract narrow vein ore bodies. The advantages of the method include:

- Cost Savings (significantly reduces dilution, reduces costs of ore handling and treatment, fully mechanised and safer, requires fewer outputs of labour.)

- Environmental (less waste rock extracted, development performed directly into ore, smaller mining tailings, fewer chemical products needed per ounce mined.)

Based on the information gathered, Rocmec believes there is a great need amongst mining companies extracting narrow vein ore bodies for new, innovative, lower cost methods of operation. Rocmec estimates that during the course of the year, it will enter in several service agreements, generating substantial cash flow for the company and important cost savings for its partners.

Rocmec Mining's growth strategy is focused on developing quality assets that will significantly enhance shareholder value by using the thermal fragmentation method throughout the Americas to extract narrow vein ore bodies. By utilising the thermal fragmentation method in combination with conventional mining methods, the company aims to become a mid-tier gold producer. In addition, by providing service agreements, the company intends to generate additional revenue and accelerate the spread of this unique technology.
