ROEL® Completes Father Joe's Villages 16th & Market Workforce/Affordable Housing Development

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - February 13, 2009) - ROEL Construction Co., Inc. is very proud to celebrate the completion of the Father Joe's Villages 16th & Market Workforce Affordable Housing Development. The ribbon cutting ceremony, which took place on February 11th, with commentary from Father Joe Carroll, San Diego County Supervisor Ron Roberts, Affordable Housing Coalition of San Diego President Richard Lawrence, ROEL CEO Wayne Hickey, future tenant Kevin Graves; and a blessing from Bishop Robert Brom of the Catholic Diocese of San Diego. Father Joe stated during his acknowledgements, "I am so grateful to ROEL and the entire extended team for never sacrificing safety or quality to deliver this magnificent development on time and under budget."

The 12-story high-rise building is poured in place concrete with post-tensional slabs and a structural steel roof. The structure itself was constructed using a form flyer system that allowed the MEP and Framing trades to install their work within 2 floors of the pouring deck and could not be achieved by using conventional flyers or shoring systems. This 217,115-square-foot mixed-use Affordable Workforce Housing project consists of 136 apartment units, first floor retail space and two levels of subterranean parking and is the first of its kind for San Diego. Construction completed in late January 2009, and residents begin moving in on February 15, 2009. Mathew Packard led the project for Father Joe's Villages, the developer. Joseph Wong, Bert Shear, and Faith Harrison of Joseph Wong Design Associates were the architect and interior designer with Al deBerardinis as the construction manager. Burkett & Wong Engineers, McParlane & Associates, Inc., Garbini & Garbini, Geocon Inc., Construction, Testing & Engineering Inc., Schirmer Engineering, Flores Lund Consultants, HKA Elevator Consulting Inc., Compliance Consulting Associates, Olympique Façade Access Consulting, and MPE Consulting Inc. also make up the design team.

ROEL representatives include Doug Briggs as senior project manager, Rob Cruden as project manager, John Tontz as assistant project manager, Brendan Inglis as project engineer, Tim Duenas as safety supervisor, Dan Dobler as concrete supervisor, Drew Peterson, Jim Groenendal, Ric Sorenson, and John Lemon as superintendents, Carol Maniglia as senior project coordinator, and Andrea Newell as administrative assistant.
