Roger's House Telethon raises more than $116,425

Annual fundraiser shows 'Hockey makes us... care.'

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 5, 2011) - The Sens Foundation raised more than $116,425 tonight at the ninth annual Roger's House Telethon on Sportsnet presented by CN. The community showed its support for the children and families that must turn to the region's pediatric palliative care residence with donations to the telethon by mail, online and phone pledges. These funds are part of the $1 million per year that the Sens Foundation provides to Roger's House for operations, capital, endowments and special projects.

One of the main donors to the broadcast, which took place one hour prior to and during the game vs the Montreal Canadiens, was Senators owner Eugene Melnyk, who put up several suite packages in return for donations, and pledged $10,000 to match contributions made during the in-bowl collection.

Corporate donors and sponsors such as Scotiabank, the Ottawa Citizen, PwC and Bell helped push the total over the $100,000 mark. CN has been the title sponsor of the telethon for the last three years, contributing well over $100,000 in that time. "CN feels strongly about supporting the communities in which our employees work and live," said Gislèle Bernier-White, manager of communications and sponsorship. "I visited Roger's House recently and I can't think of a more deserving organization for us to support because of the impact they have on the children and families with whom they are involved."

The Roger's House Telethon on Sportsnet presented by CN is one of two key events co-ordinated by the Sens Foundation to raise funds for the pediatric palliative care facility. The other is the annual Scotiabank Walk, Roll, and Run, which is held in June. Through these events, plus community events and donations, the Sens Foundation provides Roger's House with 30 per cent of its operating budget, plus additional funds for patients from Quebec, capital improvements, research and endowments.

Donations can still be mailed to the Sens Foundation at 1000 Palladium Dr., Ottawa, K2V 1A5, made online at or phoned in at 613-591-5409.
