Rogers Sugar Inc. (RSI) (TSX:RSI) is pleased to announce its support for the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement ("CETA").

The Company hosted an event today at its Montreal refinery which was attended by the Honourable Maxime Bernier of the Government of Canada and representatives of the Canadian Sugar Institute, the local Montreal business community as well as the media. A press conference was held followed by a round table discussion. At the event, Mr. Ed Makin, President & CEO stated that:

"For Lantic, this agreement marks a welcome opening of trade opportunities into the previously closed European Union market. While direct exports of sugar from Canada to Europe unfortunately remain restricted, Lantic will nonetheless benefit from additional sugar sales in Canadian-made products containing sugar. These products will in turn be exported from Canada to the European Union by companies such as our own Lantic Blending.

The initial 30,000 metric tonne per year export quota for sugar containing products will grow over time to almost 52,000 metric tonnes per year. CETA thus brings a double benefit to Lantic. Additional sugar will be refined right here at our Montreal refinery, and value-added sugar containing products produced by Lantic Blending will be exported to the premium and large European Union market. New market access into the EU for sugar and chocolate confectionery and other processed foods that use sugar will also benefit Lantic and its customer base in Canada. Over time, these new export opportunities will help support jobs and economic growth in the Canadian sugar and processed foods industries."
