RONA Closes Acquisition of Noble Trade, a Major Chain of Specialized Stores in the Plumbing Industry in Ontario

BOUCHERVILLE, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - April 2, 2007) - RONA (TSX:RON), the leading Canadian distributor and retailer of hardware, home renovation and gardening products, announces that is has received all required regulatory approvals to complete the acquisition of the assets of Noble Trade Inc., one of the largest plumbing and heating supply wholesalers in Ontario, serving a commercial and professional customer base. The transaction has been closed today and financial statements are consolidated into RONA's financial statements as of today.

Noble Trade (please see is a private company created in 1998 by the merger of Trade Plumbing Supplies and Noble Plumbing Supplies, founded in 1992 and 1993 respectively. With sales of about $150 million in the last twelve months, the company has posted average annual sales increase of 27% since 1998. Noble Trade employs more than 300 people in 19 branches and one distribution centre in Ontario.

Announced on February 7, 2007, this transaction is perfectly in line with RONA's strategic development plan. Following the acquisitions of Materiaux Coupal, Chester Dawe and Curtis Lumber in 2006, adding Noble Trade to RONA's network enhances its presence in the specialized commercial and professional market. Noble Trade, a highly profitable company with an experienced management team, is a solid platform for pursuing RONA's expansion into this market with strong consolidation potential. The transaction also allows the Company to diversify its customer base and smooth the cyclical variations inherent to the retail market.

The acquisition of Noble Trade meets all of RONA's rigorous acquisition criteria:

- Noble Trade has an excellent management team.

- The company is highly profitable.

- It will add to RONA's earnings per share as of today.

- Noble Trade operates in a sector related to RONA's main activities, which will lead to recurring annual synergies.

Close to half of Noble Trade's 19 branches are located in the Greater Toronto Area, with the remainder elsewhere in Ontario. The branches are located in Barrie, Belleville, Brampton, Concord, Etobicoke, Guelph, Hamilton, Kingston, Kitchener, London, Markham, Mississauga, North York, Oakville, Oshawa, St. Catharines, Scarborough, downtown Toronto and Windsor. The distribution centre is located in Concord.
