Room to Read Boston Chapter to Host "An Evening With John Wood"

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - October 14, 2009) - Room to Read's Boston Chapter will host "An Evening with John Wood," an inspirational fundraising event on Thursday, November 5, 2009. The evening will feature a presentation by John Wood, Room to Read's founder and executive chairman.

Wood is a three-time speaker at the Clinton Global Initiative, a five-time winner of Fast Company's Social Capitalist Award and the only non-Asian to be honored with TIME Magazine's Asian Heroes Award. The author of Leaving Microsoft to Change the World, he has appeared on Oprah, CNN, PBS, CNBC and countless other outlets.

The November event, meant to raise awareness for Room to Read's international education programs, will feature live and silent auctions. Jenny Johnson, NECN's executive producer of "TV Diner" and host of the "Jenny Cam" and "New England Dream House," will serve as emcee for the evening. Eldred's Auction Gallery will host the live auction, and entertainment will be provided by the HoneyMac Jazz Ensemble.

"With its excellent academic institutions and rich literary history, Boston has long been a center of reading and learning," said Wood. "Room to Read's mission to provide quality educational opportunities for children in the developing world really resonates with Bostonians. Auction items to be offered at the event include a week on Nantucket; a week in Burgundy, France; Cape Cod vacations; Patriots tickets with on-field pass and post-game reception; a signed Wes Welker jersey; Red Sox box seats; a signed Jonathan Papelbon baseball; a private flight to Nantucket for a day of golf; private yoga lessons and many other items.
