Mayoral Candidate Receives Key Endorsements From Civic, Community Leaders

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 8, 2010) - Rocco Rossi received a major boost today after receiving the endorsements of key leaders in the Chinese community including Gordon Chong, Justin Poy and Helen Lu.

Chong, a former Metro Councillor for the City of Toronto, vice-chairman of the TTC and Chairman of GO Transit, and a founding director of the Federation of Chinese Canadian Professionals, said that Rocco "understands (the Chinese) community because he has shared (its) experience.

"He understands where we come from. He understands our priorities. He understands our values," said Chong.

Chong said that Rossi shared the values of "honesty, hard-work, and respect" with many Chinese Canadians.

Urging all voters to make their voice heard and cast their ballot, Chong called on all in the Chinese community to "get out and vote for Rocco Rossi."

Justin Poy and Helen Lu, leaders in the Chinese community, also endorsed Rossi.

Poy is the vice-chair of the Canadian Foundation for Chinese Heritage Preservation, Chair of Chinese Community Outreach Advisory for the TIFF, and a Senior Advisory Board Member of the North American Association of Asian Professionals.

Lu is a community leader and notable fundraiser for charitable organizations including the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Daily Bread Food Bank, the Hospital for Sick Children, the United Way, and the Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care & Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation.

Commenting on the endorsements, Rossi said "I am honoured to have the support of these remarkable individuals. My campaign is about bringing Torontonians together to take back our City Hall and that's a message that resonates across communities."
