Rossi Remains Only Candidate With Realistic Fiscal Plan

Mayoral Candidate Calls Out Ford's Land Transfer Tax Flip-Flop and Fuzzy Math

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 8, 2010) - Rocco Rossi dismissed Councillor Rob Ford's second attempt at a fiscal plan today at a downtown press conference, pointing to Ford's flip flop on the land transfer tax as an indication of things to come under a Ford mayoralty.

"For nine months he's personally guaranteed that he'll scrap the land transfer tax in his first year," said Rossi. "Now he tells us that we'll have to wait -- that's because his numbers have never added up."

Rossi also criticized Councillor Ford's promise to cut taxes and increase services.

"It's simply impossible," said Rossi. "Councillor Ford is trying to bribe us with our own money with promises he can't meet.

"Ford is resorting to the old tricks of City Hall insiders: shuffle around the money until it looks like you've got a balanced budget and hope for big bailouts from the province. That's not a plan, that's a prayer."

Rossi said that the issue comes down to trust.

"This election is about trust and who we trust with our money," said Rossi. "I have delivered the only fiscal plan which the Globe and Mail, Toronto Sun, and Toronto Board of Trade have called sensible, realistic and rational. I am the only candidate voters can trust to bring real change to City Hall."

Other Ford Flip-Flops include:

Land Transfer Tax: Councillor Rob Ford promised to scrap the land transfer tax in his first year in office before flip-flopping and saying he could not deliver on that promise.

Tuggs Contract Review: Councillor Rob Ford spoke out against the Tuggs Contract again and again before flip-flopping and failing to show up for the vote on the contract review. He wanted the headlines, not the hard-work.

Driveway By-Law: Councillor Rob Ford supported the driveway bylaw before he opposed it. While he criticized the by-law in the media, he voted for it before Council.

DUI Conviction: Councillor Rob Ford was charged and convicted of driving under the influence but initially denied the charges. When the media uncovered the story, Councillor Ford flip-flopped and admitted the conviction.

ACC Assault: Councillor Rob Ford verbally assaulted a family while drunk at a Toronto Maple Leafs game. He lied about having attended the game before changing his story and admitting the assault.
