Rossi Slams Councillor Ford Over Driveway Bylaw

Mayoral Candidate Pledges to Repeal Unfair Driveway Bylaw

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 5, 2010) - Rocco Rossi slammed City Council and Councillor Rob Ford for the "driveway bylaw" and pledged to repeal it if elected mayor.

"I wholeheartedly condemn the new driveway bylaw and as your mayor I will repeal it," said Rossi. "City Hall has no business telling us how many cars we can keep in our driveways and garages.

"Councillor Ford voted for the driveway bylaw without reading it. How can we trust him to represent us if he doesn't even read what he's voting for?"

Rossi said the bylaw was part of the larger problem: City Council's quiet decision to harmonize bylaws across the City.

"Neighbourhoods are up in arms and this is just the beginning," said Rossi. "I'm going to repeal the harmonized bylaw and return local control to Toronto's neighbourhoods."

Rossi noted that his plan for voter recall and term limits would ensure that city politicians were held accountable by the voters.

"Torontonians elect Councillors trusting them to read what they're voting on," said Rossi. "When they fail to fulfill such a basic task, as Councillor Ford did, voters should be able to fire them."
