Rossi's Accountability Plan Resonates at Debate

Mayoral Candidate Surges Past Opponents With Accountability Agenda at Community Debate

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 9, 2010) - Rocco Rossi had another strong debate performance this evening emerging as the clear winner at the City of York debate held at York Memorial Collegiate Institute and moderated by John Tory.

Rossi received loud applause and a warm reception from the enthusiastic audience of several hundred, particularly for his responsible freeze and fix plan.

"I'm not going to bribe you with your own money," said Rossi. "I'm not going to be the same old politician saying 'read my lips: no new taxes' like my opponents."

Rossi received applause for his reality-check of opponent George Smitherman's fiscal plan. "Mr. Smitherman wants to be budget chief, I want to be Mayor," said Rossi. "But he wouldn't even be budget chief in my administration given his record on E-Health."

Following the debate, Rossi said he was pleased with the discussion and the clear contrast drawn between himself and the rest of the field. "It's clear that the people of Toronto want a responsible plan that makes fiscal sense to get our finances under control," said Rossi. "People don't want Mr. Smitherman's reckless and irresponsible scheme that will leave a gaping hole in our budget. They want a Mayor who will make tough decisions, not easy promises."
