Roundbox Teams With Industry Leaders to Deliver Live Mobile DTV Demonstrations at NAB 2009

Collaborative Effort Showcases the Power of Mobile DTV to Deliver High Quality Television and Advanced Data Services Over Commercially Available Equipment

LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwire - April 20, 2009) - NAB Show -- Roundbox, Inc., the leader in mobile broadcast software, today announced it has collaborated on a multi-company Mobile DTV demonstration at the 2009 National Association of Broadcasters Show (NAB) in Las Vegas. At the heart of these demonstrations is the Roundbox Mobile Broadcast Suite 5.0, a standards-based collection of client and server products for the convergence of the mobile and broadcast industries. In addition to Roundbox, these demonstrations leverage the strengths of leading companies across the broadcast and mobile ecosystems including Dell, Harris Corporation, LG Electronics, MobiTV, Triveni Digital and Zenith. These demonstrations also provide powerful tools to address the unique challenges faced by broadcasters, mobile operators and device manufacturers who are looking to deliver television as well as extend and create applications that drive new revenue while reducing costs.

The Mobile DTV technology demonstrations are being delivered with live, production over-the-air transmissions from Sinclair Broadcasting to Mobile DTV-capable receivers both within the Las Vegas Convention Center and around the Las Vegas television broadcast market. The Harris Mobile DTV headend solution includes the Roundbox Server - Mobile DTV Edition, which generates service guide signaling and announcement data and centrally manages applications and services. Mobile DTV transmissions are being received by devices running the Roundbox Client, a standards-based client software SDK, which provides receiver manufacturers a state-of-the-art software platform for delivering mobile broadcast TV and data services.

"With this live demonstration, Harris and Roundbox are delivering a comprehensive, commercially ready Mobile DTV headend solution for broadcast stations," said Jay Adrick, vice president, Broadcast Technology, Harris Corporation, Broadcast Communications. "Together we're showing broadcasters how they can immediately deliver their existing content such as news, weather, sports, traffic and entertainment to an ever-growing mobile audience."

In addition to television, Roundbox is also demonstrating over-the-air transmission of Mobile DTV widgets, a pre-standard implementation of ATSC Non-Real-Time (NRT) Services. While television transmissions focus on delivering streams, Mobile DTV widgets leverage datacast technology to deliver on-demand access to data like video clips, news, weather, and traffic over a broadcast network. Because they leverage popular Web standards, broadcasters with Web assets can immediately benefit from Mobile DTV widgets to reach new audiences and generate new advertising revenue.

Features being demonstrated include:

-- Mobile Television -- 9 television channels are being delivered over
    spectrum from 2 broadcast stations.
-- Mobile Radio -- In addition to television content, the demonstration
is also transmitting 2 radio stations.
-- Mobile DTV Signaling and Announcement -- Leveraging the ATSC's A/153
standard, signaling and announcement deliver crucial programming metadata
to Mobile DTV receivers enriching the user experience and helping consumers
find, discover, and navigate broadcast programming options.
-- Video Clip Download -- Mobile DTV Widgets are being used to provide a
"Push Video-on-Demand (P-VOD)" clip experience. Video clips are being
distributed over the air, cached locally on the device, and can be viewed
by consumers at any time. Local broadcasters can therefore use these
features to distribute content viewable by consumers outside of the bounds
of the traditional 24-hour linear TV schedule.
-- News, Weather, Sports and Traffic -- Other widgets deliver live, Web-
style content including news RSS feeds, weather graphics, and traffic maps.
This content is typically found on local station websites and can be
readily adapted to Mobile DTV Widgets.
-- Emergency Alerts -- Leveraging Homeland Security's recently adopted
EAS-CAP (Emergency Alert Service -- Common Alerting Protocol) standard,
this demonstration delivers a continuous, real-time feed of security alerts
over Mobile DTV Widgets. Public safety applications like EAS-CAP uniquely
benefit from broadcast and are an important tool for demonstrating how
Mobile DTV can help broadcasters meet local and national mandates.
-- Combined Broadcast and Unicast Guide -- In addition to showcasing
broadcast content available over Mobile DTV, the demonstration service
guide also integrates unicast services provided by MobiTV delivered over a
bidirectional IP connection. Hybrid broadcast and unicast services are a
particularly important deployment model for mobile operators as they
integrate and extend Mobile DTV into their solution portfolios.
-- Embedded Advertising and Weblinks -- Mobile DTV standards enable a
variety of new advertising and web integration scenarios for broadcasters.
The demonstration highlights the new advertising inventory available both
within the service guide and widget content as well as providing links to
    broadcaster web content.

"As one of the leaders in creating the ATSC specification for Mobile DTV, Roundbox continues to demonstrate its expertise and vision with how best to leverage ATSC-M/H," said Anne Schelle, executive director, Open Mobile Video Coalition. "These demonstrations reinforce the power of Mobile DTV to not only deliver TV on the go but also enable rich, new services that create entirely new experiences for broadcasters and consumers alike."

Roundbox will be demonstrating the power of the Roundbox Mobile Broadcast Suite at the NAB Show, held on April 18-23 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Demonstrations can be seen in the Harris exhibit, Booth N-2502, in the OMVC exhibit, Booth C-8150 and at the ATSC Mobile DTV Pavilion in the LG Electronics / Zenith exhibit, Booth C-8546-F.
