Roxar Launches New Ultra Compact, Subsea Sand and Pig Monitoring AD3000 System

STAVANGER, NORWAY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 2, 2005 -- Roxar, a leading technology solutions provider to the upstream oil and gas industry and a pioneer in the field of acoustic sand and pig monitoring, today announced the launch of a new ultra compact, subsea system for monitoring production of sand - the AD3000 system. The same detectors can also be used as pig detectors.

Replacing the existing SAM400SR- and PDS500SR-slave, the AD3000 system utilizes Roxar's passive acoustic technology. The detectors are ultra compact and sensitive, non-intrusive, can be strapped on and are virtually maintenance free. In addition, the detectors' compact size make it possible to find suitable installation locations within the constraints of subsea template and piping designs. The system is ROV retrievable and mounted in fixed, pre-installed clamps with guide funnels. Operational depth is 3000 meters.

Each AD3000 detector has its own miniaturized built-in computer with a unique slave address and a powerful calculation engine that carries out all sand rate or pig detection processing. There is no need for any external computers or 'black boxes' - either topside or in the Subsea Electronics Module (SEM/POD). The pre-processed data goes straight into the Master Control System (MCS) or equivalent host system. The system will be provided with redundant electronics allowing for two independent communications paths.

The Roxar Server and Client software packages are available for real-time and historical time-series trending and overview information. A separate Windows-based service software package is used by support personnel for system setup and maintenance. New software configurations, calibrations and settings can be downloaded over the serial links if changes are required to the calculation model at any time.

Roxar CEO, Sandy Esslemont, said:

"The AD3000 detector design is based on proven measurement technology and an excellent subsea track record. The ultra compact design is centered upon well proven principles in robustness, material selection, seals and ROV- intervention in addition to a new optimal mechanical design for sound transfer from piping to detector. The retrievable system used has the same design principles as Roxar's multiphase and wet gas meters."

He continues:

"All modules are backed up by qualification tests within customer specifications and by detailed FEM and thermal transient analysis. ROV qualification tests are performed for the AD3000 sand/pig detector in conjunction with tests performed for Roxar's Multiphase Flow Meter (MPFM) system."

The AD 3000 system can either be a stand-alone product or installed as an integrated part of the Roxar Subsea Multiphase Flow Meter or Wet Gas Meter.

Roxar Business Unit Manager, Sand and Pig, Erlend Fremstad continues:

"With this launch today, Roxar is consolidating its position as a pioneering company within sand and pig detection. The integration with Roxar's Multiphase Flow Meters (MPFM), Wet Gas Meters (WGM) and the sand detector will give added value to the client. The subsea sand detectors will be interfaced to the MPFM/WGM by adding an additional connector to the canister top for electrical connection of the sand sensor."

"This means that the MPFM/WGM and the AD3000 detector are two separate instruments with individual communication lines, but share power over the same line, hence saving the additional line and corresponding connectors. The subsea sand detectors will get velocity input from the MPFM/WGM meter, hence saving the additional subsea jumper and corresponding connection to the System Control Module (SCM)."
