Roxy Athlete, Torah Bright, Becomes First Ever Snowboarder to Qualify for Three Olympic Events

Australian Olympian Will Compete in Halfpipe, Slopestyle and Snowboard Cross in Sochi

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA--(Marketwired - Jan 28, 2014) - Roxy athlete, Torah Bright, announced her qualification to compete in women's snowboard cross for the Australian national team at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. Bright will be competing in three snowboarding events (slopestyle, halfpipe and snowboard cross) over the span of the Games, a feat never before achieved by a male or female athlete. She was confirmed to compete in halfpipe and slopestyle last week when Australia made their initial Olympic selections. Bright's official invitation to the snowboard cross was received this past weekend.

The decision to pursue three disciplines came one year ago, when prompted by her brother and coach, Ben Bright. She entered her first snowboard cross competition last season, giving her a very steep learning curve for preparing for the Olympics in less than 12 months. She focused, trained hard and had relentless determination to reach this accomplishment. "A year ago I started this journey, daring myself to qualify for three snowboard events in the Olympics," said Bright. "This is an Olympic journey done my way. More than anything, it's about sharing the sport I love with the world. This has been a journey of exploring what is possible for me on my snowboard and challenging myself like never before. Today I can say that I realized that goal."

"Torah is an incredible athlete," said Nick Drake, Chief Marketing Officer of Quiksilver Inc. "We are very proud to have supported her journey to make Olympic history in Sochi and wish her the very best of success at the games."

Bright will head to Sochi to defend her previous Olympic gold medal win in snowboard halfpipe at the 2010 Games in Vancouver.
