The Royal Canadian Circus was en route to Fort McMurray to perform 8 shows booked for the weekend of May 12-15. When the performers learned of the devastation and became displaced themselves, they found an option in an unlikely place. And it came with an opportunity to give back as well. They have made the decision to put on a free show (by donation) this Friday May 13th, at 7:30 pm in Olds, Alberta, just down the #2 highway.

The international cast of the Zerbini Circus comes from China, Chile, Cuba, Romania, Kyrgyzstan, Switzerland and Argentina; this entourage of more than 60 men, women & children know what it's like to be displaced.

Judy Dahl, longtime Mayor of the Town of Olds, Alberta volunteered to help and said, "The timeline is tight, however, we understand municipal disasters and my hope is we can work through the red tape...thank you for thinking of Olds." Within hours, she had mobilized the decision makers in her community and Olds College was chosen as the site for the Big Top this coming weekend.

Tarzan Zerbini himself suggested that 100% of monies from the benefit performance be donated to the Canadian Red Cross for the Fort McMurray Relief Fund and added, "I've been coming to Alberta with my circus for over 50 years. My family has been in the business since the 1700's. I was born in France, but grew up in North Africa. My family left Algeria in the 1950's during a time of insurrection. I've seen it all, and I personally know the pain these people are enduring. I want to help."

Ringmaster, spokesman, and daredevil Joseph Dominick Bauer, an eighth generation circus performer from Switzerland says, "I learned all the important lessons in life from proud and resilient circus people like my own father-in-law, Tarzan; I learned about priorities, about family first. We in turn are committed to doing the best we can to help while we're here."

The Royal Canadian Circus will set up at Olds College in Olds, Alberta this weekend; the fundraising will continue with on-site volunteers present to collect donations for Fort McMurray relief.
