TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 13, 2005) -

The Royal Horse Show opening weekend - November 4th to 6th, 2005

The opening weekend of the Royal Horse Show is set to sizzle with a line-up of exciting events and competitions running from Friday, November 4th to Sunday, November 6th as part of the 83rd Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. The scheduled mix of fast-paced activities, colourful pageantry, incredible horsemanship and light-hearted fun is just the ticket for families looking for a truly magical and time-limited outing that they won't find anywhere else.

Here are the highlights of the Royal Horse Show's opening weekend:

- CANADA'S BEST! Up to twenty of the nation's best athletes will compete in The Canadian Show Jumping Championships held over two days for $70,000 in prize money. Eight-time Olympian Ian Millar will attempt to defend his title with the first round taking place on the evening of Friday, November 4th and the second deciding round scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, November 5th.

- NEW this year - a rodeo showdown! Canada's first nation-wide rodeo competition in 40 years! On Sunday, November 6th up to fifty of the country's best rodeo competitors will saddle up for an "East" versus "West" rodeo challenge. Bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback bronc riding and ladies' barrel racing events round out the show - with participants vying for over $20,000 in prize money.

- NEW! The Kubota Cup National Finals on the evening of Saturday, November 5th will be the heart-stopping climax to the Kubota Cup Canadian Show Jumping Series that began in April and touched down in seven Canadian cities coast to coast. It all ends at the Royal where spectators will watch the top show jumpers from Western and Eastern Canada face off at the final exciting grand prix for a purse of $40,000.

- Another NEW feature! Named 'Rodeo Act of the Year' for 10 consecutive years, the One-Arm Bandit will wow Royal audiences with an incredible performance revolving around the grace, strength and beauty of the Mustang horse. His specialty show will run throughout the first weekend of the Royal.

- NEW! It's the Eukanuba SuperDogs! Audiences will enjoy watching these high-energy canine stars hurdle high barriers, navigate obstacles and perform countless other antics in this incredible show. The SuperDogs have performed for millions of fans throughout North and Central America and have recently been featured in a coming-of-age movie released in theatres this past March.

- RETURNING - it's the RCMP! Last seen at the Royal in 2003, the RCMP Musical Ride is back! A national treasure that has represented Canada throughout the world, these riders in red entertain audiences by guiding their horses through intricate figures and cavalry drills, all set to stirring tunes. There are thirty-three officers in total, riding on beautiful, almost-identical black steeds.
