Royal Host Appoints New Trustee

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 29, 2005) - Alvin G. Poettcker, Chairman of the Board of Royal Host Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX:RYL.UN) (TSX:RYL.DB) (TSX:RYL.DB.A) ("Royal Host"), is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Harold A. Roozen to its Board of Trustees effective August 12, 2005.

"Mr. Roozen is an experienced corporate director and will be a very valuable asset to our Board. We look forward to his contributions," commented Poettcker.

"I am very impressed with the leadership and calibre of people involved with Royal Host," said Mr. Roozen. "The company has great assets and I see significant opportunity for enhanced shareholder value," added Roozen.

Mr. Roozen has held a number of senior executive positions throughout his career and served on a variety of public and private boards. He is currently the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CCI Thermal Technologies Inc., a manufacturing company, and is a member of the Board of Directors and Audit Committee of Shaw Communications Inc. Born in Calgary, Mr. Roozen obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and received his MBA from Queen's University where he was a member of their School of Business Advisory Board.

Commenting on the announcement, Greg Royer, Royal Host's President and Chief Executive Officer, said, "We are very pleased to have Harold join us. His extensive experience in Canadian business and his background in real estate development will further strengthen our Board."

Mr. Roozen's appointment to the Board fills a recent vacancy resulting from the departure of board member Randy Royer, one of the original founders of the Trust. Royal Host recognizes and thanks Randy Royer for his valuable contributions to the company.

Royal Host owns 37 hotels, manages 117 properties and franchises 120 locations representing 18,000 guestrooms in the mid-market to upscale segments. It also owns the master franchise rights for the Travelodge brand in Canada and provides hotel and resort management services for its portfolio and to third party properties.
