Royal Ontario Museum Lends Justine, a 3,000 Year Old Mummy,to THEMUSEUM's New Unwrapping Egypt Exhibition

KITCHENER, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - July 29, 2014) - THEMUSEUM announced today a new collaboration with the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) to bring a three thousand year old mummy called "Justine" to display at its new Unwrapping Egypt exhibition. Unwrapping Egypt is on now and runs until February 2015 and features over 400 museum-quality replica artifacts focusing on the world-famous tomb of King Tutankhamun.

Justine is part of the ROM's world-renowned Egypt collection and was acquired by the Museum more than one hundred years ago. The Mummy and coffin were found at Deir el-Bahari in Egypt and excavated in 1904 by Edouard Naville, a colleague of the ROM's first Director, Charles Trick Currelly. Justine was named by Gayle Gibson, a ROM Egyptologist, and is believed to be the wife of a wab-priest in the 21st or 22nd dynasty of Egypt and to have died in her late 20s.

"There is a great synergy in all of this, especially in the 100 year anniversary of the Royal Ontario Museum", said David Marskell, CEO THEMUSEUM. "The ROM has been a great supporter of THEMUSEUM on many occasions and we're proud to be sharing part of their collection with our visitors."

"The ROM is proud to partner with THEMUSEUM to bring an intriguing part of our Egyptian collection to their new exhibition. As we celebrate the ROM's Centennial, it was important for us to find new ways to highlight the ROM's stories and objects beyond our gallery walls," said Janet Carding, ROM Director & CEO. "We are absolutely delighted to share Justine and her fascinating story with Kitchener and the surrounding communities."

THEMUSEUM will be announcing details in the autumn for two people to win a trip to Egypt, including a stay in Cairo, a several night cruise down the Nile and a visit to Justine's home near the Valley of the Kings. Unwrapping Egypt continues through February 2015.
