RS Components Help Customers Reduce Emissions With Launch of Schneider Electric™ Vehicle Charging Points

Schneider Electric EVlink™ units offer quick charge and reliability

CORBY, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Dec. 10, 2012) - RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), the world's leading high service distributor of electronics and maintenance products, is helping environmentally conscious customers reduce pollution with the introduction of Schneider Electric EVlink™ charging units.

Schneider Electric™ has been actively involved in the electric vehicle (EV) market for over ten years, developing a range of robust solutions for the increasing number of domestic and commercial drivers who are choosing electrically-powered vehicles. The latest addition to the range is the easy to use EVlink™ unit which is now available to purchase through RS, one of a select group of resellers in the UK.

It is estimated by the Energy Saving Trust that it's six times more expensive to run a diesel or petrol car compared to an electric vehicle. Plug-in vehicles are not subject to road tax, and servicing costs tend to be lower. The Climate Change Committee (CCC) recommends that Government should aim for a widespread roll-out of electric cars and plug-in hybrids by 2020, ensuring that up to 1.7 million of these vehicles are on the road by this time.

Allen Boney, RS Product Marketing Manager commented: "We are delighted to stock Schneider Electric EVlink™ charging units. They present a cost-effective and reliable solution to electric vehicle users and offer both fast and longer charging options. It only takes 30 minutes to get a vehicle 80% charged, with a full charge taking just three hours."

RS is piloting EV charging at its Corby site after installing two EVlink™ units for customers, visitors and staff which are currently free to use. If the trial is a success, the units will be rolled out across its network of trade counters located across the UK.

Richard Wright, UK Channel Manager from Schneider Electric™ commented: "Demand for electric vehicles from both business and domestic users is rising as car manufacturer's increase the number of models launched each year. As a global specialist in energy management, we have developed units that offer a convenient yet robust solution to those running electric vehicles. They feature unmatched safety features and easily integrate with other Schneider Electric products for a complete EV solution."

The Schneider Electric EVlink™ units are now also available at RS online.
