RSC: 81 Top Canadians Honoured

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 13, 2007) - Eighty-one highly distinguished Canadians will be honoured by RSC: The Academies of Arts, Humanities and Sciences of Canada (the Society), on Saturday, November 17, 2007 in Edmonton, Alberta.

The Society's recently elected Fellows will be inducted at a ceremony taking place at the Winspear Centre at 4 p.m. Each year the Society elects a limited number of distinguished scholars, scientists and artists, as well as outstanding Canadians in public life, following a rigorous nomination process. Upon election, new Fellows join one of the Society's three Academies: the Academy of the Arts and Humanities, the Academy of Social Sciences or the Academy of Science.

RSC also honours meritorious scholars and researchers with its medals and awards every year. The presentation of the Society's medals for 2007 will take place at the Winspear Centre during the Annual Banquet, the evening of the 17. Twelve Canadians will receive awards in recognition of their major recent contributions.

RSC will welcome numerous guests to both events, including representatives of the government, business, research institutions and universities from across Canada.

Information on the newly elected Fellows and complete details on RSC awards and winners for 2007 can be obtained on the Society's website,
