RTI Appoints Scott McNealy as Inaugural Advisory Board Member

Sun Microsystems Co-founder Will Provide Strategic Counsel as RTI Expands Its Influence in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) Market

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwired - May 9, 2017) - Real-Time Innovations (RTI), the Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity company, today announced Scott McNealy, co-founder of Sun Microsystems, as the first member of RTI's advisory board. McNealy is a Silicon Valley legend and technology pioneer, leading Sun Microsystems as CEO and Chairman for more than 20 years before becoming Chairman of Denver-based Wayin. Today, he is actively involved in the Silicon Valley technology scene, serving on the advisory boards for www.Curriki.org, an education non-profit, as well as several tech startups. McNealy will join RTI's new advisory board to help steer the direction of the next wave of computing and distributed systems, known as the Industrial IoT.

"Sun was successful because we led the technology curve, and I see the same quality in RTI," said Scott McNealy, co-founder of Sun Microsystems and advisory board member at RTI. "The future of the internet will be about networking, autonomy, interoperability and distributed 'fog' computing. These are the essential components of the Industrial IoT. RTI's approach to the market mirrors what we did at Sun. RTI is the clear technology and thought leader in the future distributed computing market. I'm honored to join the company and help build a top-quality advisory board."

McNealy brings extensive business and technology experience to RTI. Sun combined the power of advanced computing and networking to transform office and technical computing. RTI is leading a similar transformation, but now in industries like transportation, power and medical systems. As an advisor, McNealy will influence RTI's product strategy, connect RTI to key executives and help develop an ecosystem strategy.

"Scott is the ideal first advisory board member for RTI. Sun, under Scott's leadership, shaped the Internet," said Dr. Stan Schneider, CEO at RTI. "The Internet revolutionized financial, retail and consumer information industries. However, it barely touched the power grid, hospitals or transportation. RTI is leading the future of intelligently-connected infrastructure that will transform these industries. The Industrial IoT really is a logical extension of Scott's original 'The Network is the Computer' vision. I am thrilled to work in such an inspiring moment in history with the world's best technology and team. Scott's support and counsel on the advisory board will be instrumental in paving our path forward."

The goal of the RTI advisory board is to identify strategic growth opportunities and expand the company's influence in the IIoT industry. Advisory board members will drive RTI's success with major customers that are investing billions in future infrastructure. Applications include GE Healthcare's hospital instruments, Siemens Wind Power's turbines, North America's largest hydropower instillations, autonomous cars ("carbots"), hyperloop and surgical robotic systems. RTI plans to add future stars to its advisory board, targeting 4-5 influential members by the end of 2017.
