RTI Hosts June 2013 FACE Consortium Meeting

More Than 125 FACE Members Come Together to Discuss Open Standards, Interoperability and Data Modeling for Avionics Systems

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwired - May 30, 2013) - Real-Time Innovations (RTI), the real-time infrastructure software company, today announced it will host the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE™) Consortium F2F meeting at their Sunnyvale, Calif. headquarters next week, June 4 - 6, 2013. The FACE Consortium is a collaborative group of avionics industry and U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force members who are working to develop standards for a common operating environment to support portable capability applications across Department of Defense (DoD) avionics systems.

During the F2F gathering of the FACE technical and business working groups, members will focus on reviewing, drafting, updating and validating standards for a common modular, open architecture operating environment, which will allow capabilities to be extended across aircraft and unmanned avionics computer systems. The goal is to reduce the time and cost required to develop and integrate new capabilities into the platform Operational Flight Programs (OFPs).

The event will include a keynote from RTI CEO Stan Schneider and a special presentation on FACE Consortium and UAS Control Segment (UCS) Working Group alignment activities from Dr. William Antypas, Chief Consulting Engineer at RTI.

"RTI is excited to host the FACE Consortium meeting and to be part of this industry and government team at the forefront of interoperability and open standards," said Stan Schneider, CEO of RTI. "Along with the entire FACE membership team, RTI is committed to an open architecture that expands the selection of military avionics applications and reduces the cost of procurement, system integration, upgrades and technology refresh, while significantly reducing the total lifecycle cost."

The FACE Consortium formed in June 2010 as a government and industry partnership to define an open avionics environment for all military airborne platform types. Today, it is an aviation-focused professional group made up of industry suppliers, customers, academia and users. It provides a vendor-neutral forum for industry and government to work together to develop and consolidate the open standards, best practices, guidance documents and business models necessary for:

  • Standardized approaches for using open standards within avionics systems
  • Lower implementation costs of FACE systems
  • Standards that support a robust architecture and enable quality software development
  • The use of standard interfaces that will lead to reuse of capabilities
  • Portability of applications across multiple FACE systems and vendors
  • Procurement of FACE conformant products
  • More capabilities reaching the warfighter faster
  • Innovation and competition within the avionics industry
