RTJ Computing and LSI Logic Collaborate to Offer Java Support for ZSP Cores

RTJ Computing's simpleRTJ Java Virtual Machine (JVM) Has Been Now Ported to LSI Logic's Entire G1 Family of ZSP Processors

Excellent Control Code Capabilities and Code Density of ZSP Architecture Make It Perfect Match for JVM Execution

MILPITAS, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- July 19, 2005 -- The DSP Product Division of LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) and RTJ Computing today announced that consumer product developers utilizing the ZSP® G1 family of digital signal processor (DSP) cores will now be supported by RTJ Computing's simpleRTJ Java Virtual Machine (JVM). As the newest member of the ZSP Solution Partner Program, RTJ Computing has ported its clean room implementation of the Java language to the G1 family of ZSP DSP processors including the ZSP200, ZSP400 and ZSPneo. With a small memory footprint and no RTOS required, system designers benefit from better portability to different processors, simplified system development and a reduced bill of materials across a wide range of applications using the popular licensable ZSP architecture with simpleRTJ.

"Our unique approach to the clean room implementation of the Java Virtual Machine allows us to supply a Java run-time solution that can even be used on the embedded systems with the very modest memory configuration on a wide variety of 8/16/32-bit microcontrollers," said Peter Gasparik, director, RTJ Computing. "The combination of this type of flexibility with the superior performance of the ZSP architecture provides designers with the ability to easily exploit the processing power available to them."

Taking advantage of the ZSP architecture's excellent control code efficiency and high code density, RTJ Computing has created a unique JVM run-time environment that allows Virtual Machine to execute Java bytecodes directly from the ZSP 16-bit data memory. This method of bytecodes execution virtually doubles the amount of memory available to the Java application as there is no need to expand the bytecodes to match the ZSP architecture's native 16-bit data format.

"We are pleased to add RTJ Computing as a Solution Partner for our ZSP architecture," said Tuan Dao, vice president and general manager of the LSI Logic DSP Division. "RTJ Computing's port of their simpleRTJ product is a great illustration of the control code processing capability of the ZSP G1 cores, and shows how these cores can efficiently tackle consumer applications that need both DSP and control processing. Combining the most widely-available open DSP technology with the most innovative implementation of the Java Virtual machine offers a unique value proposition to our customers."
