RTL Nederland Deploys Solarflare 40GbE Networking Technology to Achieve High Quality Multimedia Content Delivery

Solarflare Enables RTL to Enhance the Capacity of Existing CDN Infrastructure, Doubling Storage Capacity and Increasing Throughput per CDN Server by 50%

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwired - Dec 16, 2014) - Solarflare, the leader in application-intelligent 10/40 Gigabit Ethernet (10/40GbE) technology, today announced RTL Nederland -- a trendsetting multimedia company with a leading position in the Dutch consumer and advertising market -- has deployed Solarflare's SFN7142Q 40GbE Server Adapters to achieve the highest video quality, from consumption to playback.

With the introduction of High Definition (HD) video on demand (VoD), RTL needs to significantly increase bandwidth to handle HD content and maintain the Quality of Service (QoS) to ensure an interruption-free viewer experience. Solarflare's latest SFN7142Q 40GbE Server Adapters enable RTL to increase bandwidth from 5Gbps to 30 Gbps per Content Delivery Network (CDN) server. This empowers RTL to enhance the capacity of their existing CDN infrastructure, doubling storage capacity and increasing throughput per CDN server by 50% -- with server CPU utilization of just 30%.

"The media landscape has changed dramatically and requires higher networking capacity and throughput to deliver high quality multimedia content for live streaming and on demand videos," said Fardau van Neerden, Sr. System Engineer, RTL Nederland. "After a thorough evaluation of several options for upgrading our network, we came to the conclusion that turnkey solutions were either unavailable or not cost effective in the long term. We are thrilled to partner with Solarflare to deliver best-in-class media entertainment services for our growing customer base."

"With customers such as RTL and CloudFlare, Solarflare has proven to be the technology of choice for high-demand CDNs to deliver reliable and scalable solutions," said Russell Stern, CEO at Solarflare. "As online content continues to grow at an explosive rate, we are seeing an increased demand for high performance and low latency network solutions from all industries to effectively manage massive amounts of data traffic while providing better quality of services to end users."

Solarflare's SFN7142Q 40GbE Server Adapter provides hardware-assisted features that economically and efficiently distributes I/O processor workloads and optimizes CPU utilization and bandwidth for 40Gb Ethernet applications. The SFN7142Q accelerates Ethernet-attached storage, can provide real-time packet capture and network monitoring, plus enables big data analytics and other cloud/ Web 2.0 implementations, in addition to cloud applications such as data-intensive key value storage workloads like NoSQL, memcached, and CouchBase Server.
