Rule the World; Save the World

Ontario CAs Challenge Students to Think Philanthropically

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 5, 2011) - Not content with just offering students a chance to "Rule the world" by becoming a CA, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario is also offering high school and university students a chance to "Save the world" by taking part in the CA Philanthropy Challenge. Young people are being challenged to come up with revolutionary ideas that can help make the world a better place and the CAs are incenting them by offering both help and, more importantly, cash.

"If students ask us why we're offering to help make them a famed and beloved philanthropist, we tell them it's simple – we want your brain," said Cordie Jagt, CA, Associate Director, Career Information with the Institute. "The Institute is on the lookout for the best and brightest young minds, the type of people with the potential to become CAs and join Canada's business elite. As part of our on-going Rule the World ad campaign, the Save the World contest allows young people to demonstrate their ideas and enthusiasm while potentially winning big."

The prizes are $10,000 for the winning high school student team and $10,000 for the winning university student team, with up to$5,000 going towards making the students' ideas reality and the extra $5,000 going towards anything the winners care to spend it on.

"Students can download a Save the World business proposal template from our website that will help them organize their ideas beyond the 'sketch on a napkin" stage. The template helps to organize the idea – what it is, what it will accomplish, how long it will take and what it will cost," explained Ms. Jagt. "That way our panel of expert judges – CAs and other top professionals from the world of business and not-for-profits – can fairly evaluate it and see which ideas will provide the most 'bang for the bucks' in terms of helping our community and saving the world."

To be eligible, participants must register on-line as an associate student at and then send their entry to by February 25, 2011. Snail mail users can send entries to:
