Tennis Champion Rafael Nadal Holds Court With Pikayo Chef Wilo Benet

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - August 24, 2007) - Grand Slam tennis champion Rafael Nadal paid a special visit to the Rums of Puerto Rico "Rum Court" at Dacor® Taste of Tennis August 23 at the W Hotel in New York. Nadal posed for photographers with Chef Wilo Benet of San Juan's Pikayo restaurant and Karen Garnik, chief marketing officer for Rum of Puerto Rico, and he signed autographs for fans.

"It was an incredible honor to have a top ranked tennis champion like Nadal come to our rum court. For Rums of Puerto Rico it really was a 'grand slam' opportunity," said Ms. Garnik.

Rums of Puerto Rico was the exclusive spirits sponsor for Dacor® Taste of Tennis, which served as the official kickoff party for the 8th annual U.S. Open Tennis Championships. Top tennis players including Andy Roddick, Tommy Haas and Daniela Hantuchova were teamed with top chefs from New York and elsewhere to serve tantalizing dishes to more the than 500 attendees. In addition to Chef Benet, featured chefs at the event included (among others): Marcus Samuelsson, Aquavit; John Schenk, Strip House and Ivy Stark, Amalia, all from New York City, and Matt Zubrod, Dish Aspen, from Aspen, CO. Chef Samuelsson conducted a cooking demonstration for the crowd with a little help from "sous chef" Andy Roddick.

Benet served three dishes paired with rum cocktails: Candied Papaya with Aged Barrilito 3 Star Rum and Farmer's Cheese; Rice "Pegaitos" (light and crispy morsels of fried rice) topped with Creole Style Corned Beef Brisket made with Bacardi® Peach rum and a Ripe Plantain Emulsion; and Puerto Rican "Bistec Encebollado" Rolls (thin slices of beef tenderloin stuffed with caramelized onions and rolled then sliced, served with a slice of fried potato).

"It was an experience unlike no other to have Rafael Nadal helping me top off one of my dishes with a rum emulsion," said Wilo Benet.

The Rums of Puerto Rico Drinks Team, Ahmed Naveira and Ariel Otero created rum cocktails with a tennis theme for the event:
