Run of River Power Commences Environmental Studies

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 16, 2006) -

Run of River Power Inc. (TSX VENTURE:ROR) ("Run of River") is pleased to announce the commencement of detailed environmental work on its Upper Pitt River project cluster.

The Company has engaged the Barkely Group to provide environmental assessments and reports required to advance the first 4 of 8 projects planned for the Upper Pitt River watershed.

Jako Krushnisky, CEO of Run of River Power said, "We are very pleased to have started this phase of the work in the Upper Pitt River which represents one more step on the way to long term stable cash flow for the Company. Hydrology studies on the 8 creeks commenced earlier this year with the installation of stream gauges which will record the year of data necessary for submission to a BC Hydro Call for Power. Consultations with all stakeholders in the area including the Katzie Nation have been initiated and will be an ongoing part of the development process."

The Upper Pitt River project cluster consists of 8 "run of the river" hydroelectric plants which will all interconnect with the BC hydro grid. When fully developed, the Upper Pitt River project cluster will have an installed capacity of approximately 120 MW.

Run of River's development plan in the Upper Pitt River and Mamquam watersheds would install in excess of 150 MW of capacity and would provide over $60 million in gross revenue per year to the Corporation.

The Corporation intends to commence construction on its Raffuse Creek project in the Spring of 2007 and will consider selling the power on a merchant basis or in response to a BC Hydro Call for Power.
