"Run with the Cops, not from Them!" 2015 Charity Run and Walk Supports For a Day of Detroit

DETROIT, MI--(Marketwired - Apr 21, 2015) - The 6th Annual "Run with the Cops, not from Them" fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, on Belle Isle State Park with Detroit Police Department Chief James E. Craig starting the certified 10K race at 9:30 a.m. A certified 5K race and 1K walk/run begin immediately following.

Last year, hundreds ran together to support the For a Day of Detroit. The organization creates emotionally therapeutic experiences for seriously ill children and provides them and their families with joyful and much needed diversions from the strain of chronic treatment.

The family-friendly running event will feature special appearances by the Detroit Police Department Special Response Team, Bomb Squad, Dive Team and Mounted Unit as well as refreshments and fun for all.

"Race day is going to be something special," said volunteer race coordinator Detroit Police Department Sergeant Carol Almeranti. "We've always enjoyed a great run on Belle Isle, but what really makes this race exceptional is the support from all our volunteers, runners and the Detroit Police Department. Taking time to run or walk for families and kids facing chronic health issues is just so generous."

Runners can preregister at www.fadfdetroit.org or at the event itself. Cost is $35 for the 10K and 5K timing chip race, and $25 for the family 1K walk/run. All finishers will receive a medal.

The For a Day Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that partners with hospitals and organizations to host events for pediatric patients and their families. The organization uses role models, make believe, and play therapy to give each child the opportunity to imagine and live out a fantasy while experiencing a moment of the childhood they all deserve. The foundation has worked in Detroit hospitals such as Royal Oak Beaumont, St. John Hospital, Children's Hospital of Michigan and Mott Children's Hospital with visits to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids, Sparrow Hospital in Lansing and Hurley Medical Center in Flint. Last year, volunteers with the organization visited 556 children and treated them to special events like "Royal Tuck Ins" and craft days.
