Rural/Metro Awarded 2-Year Extension of Exclusive 911 Ambulance Contract in Orlando, Florida

SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwire - September 13, 2010) -  Rural/Metro Corporation (NASDAQ: RURL), a leading provider of ambulance and private fire protection services, today was awarded a two-year extension of its exclusive 911 ambulance services contract for the City of Orlando, Florida on a unanimous vote of the Orlando City Council.

Michael P. Rural/Metro is the largest ambulance service in Central Florida and has served the City of Orlando since 1985, providing more than 25,000 emergency ambulance transports annually. The Company was the first nationally accredited ambulance service in the state of Florida and is one of only seven providers currently accredited in the state.

In addition to 911 emergency ambulance services, Rural/Metro provides non-emergency medical transportation services to hospitals, long-term care centers, and other healthcare facilities in Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties. Rural/Metro is also the contracted ambulance provider for Orlando Health, one of the state's largest healthcare systems, which includes seven major hospitals throughout Central Florida.
