Russell Emerging Europe Index: Energy Sector Comprises 35%

TACOMA, WA--(Marketwire - October 1, 2010) -  The energy sector in the Russell Emerging Europe Index comprises 35% of the index as of September 28, 2010, rising from a mere 2.2% weight at the beginning of 2000. The financial services sector, in contrast, has dropped from 44% in 2000 to 25% as of September 28, 2010.

However, in the Russell Developed Europe Index, the financial services sector continues to lead all other sectors and has maintained its weight at the same level of around 23% from January 2000 to September 28, 2010. The utilities sector, which represented 17.7% of Developed Europe in 2000, has fallen to 9.7% as of September 28, 2010.

Technology, which represented 6.6% of Emerging Europe and 10% of Developed Europe in 2000, currently represents the lowest sector weight in both regions with 0.4% in the Emerging Europe Index and 5.3% in the Developed Europe Index.
