Ryan Hall long term care employees ratify tentative agreement

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - Aug. 21, 2013) - Employees at Ryan Hall nursing home in Bridgewater, members of CUPE Local 5033, have voted 100 percent in favour of a new collective agreement. The agreement is for a three-year term and includes wage increases of 2, 2.5 and 3 percent.

Local 5033 President Sharon Miller says the 70 employees are pleased that the bargaining committee was able to negotiate dental benefits as part of their agreement. "This is the first time that the government has sat at a table and negotiated dental benefits for long term care employees," says Miller. "The dental plan will go into effect this year."

The tentative agreement was achieved on June 21 as part of provincial bargaining.

CUPE's Long Term Care Co-ordinating Committee bargains provincially on behalf of about 3,300 CUPE nursing home workers who work in dietary, environmental services, maintenance, recreation and resident care.
