Ryder Employees Bring Toys and Holiday Cheer to Special Needs Students

Continuing a 12-Year Tradition, Ryder Chairman and CEO Greg Swienton Leads the Christmas Celebration at Neva King Cooper Educational Center

MIAMI, FL--(Marketwire - December 20, 2010) - For the 12th consecutive year, the employees of Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE: R), a FORTUNE 500® transportation and logistics provider, brought holiday cheer to the students of Neva King Cooper Educational Center in Homestead, Fla. A Miami-Dade County public school, Neva King Cooper Educational Center serves the needs of significantly intellectually disabled children and adults, ages 3-22.

A group of 16 volunteers from Ryder, including Ryder Chairman and CEO Greg Swienton and members of the company's Leadership Team, organized a holiday celebration for the center's 116 students, distributing bags of toys and gifts and leading the students in Christmas carols with Neva King's faculty and staff. The holiday celebration included a surprise visit from the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders and a special appearance from Santa Claus, who rode in on a fire truck provided by the Miami-Dade Fire Department.

"Most of our families face significant financial challenges," said Henny Cristobol, Assistant Principal of Neva King Cooper Educational Center. "While this economy has been difficult for just about everyone, these families also face the additional strain of providing for their children's special needs, often on limited resources. The assistance that Ryder gives our students at Christmas and throughout the year goes a long way toward improving their quality of life and their enjoyment of the holidays."

Each student received a bag containing two toys from their Christmas wish list, as well as a sweatshirt, fleece blanket, stuffed animal or sensory ball, toiletries, and a bathing suit and towel to use in the school's swimming pool, where students receive therapy. The toys were personally donated by Ryder's employees and the toiletries and additional supplies were donated by Ryder's Leadership Team. One class also received gift cards for their field trip to buy Christmas presents for their families.

In appreciation for Ryder's longstanding support of Neva King, a proclamation from Miami-Dade County School Board Vice Chair Dr. Lawrence Feldman was presented to Ryder during the event.

"Celebrating with the children of Neva King has become a tradition," said Ryder Chairman and CEO Greg Swienton. "It's as much a part of our holiday as anything else we do during this special time of year. I'm proud of our company not only for our culture of corporate giving and financial support to charitable organizations, but also for the time and effort our employees put in to make sure we help our neighbors. I'm grateful for a workforce that is constantly working to give back to the community."

Ryder employees also lend assistance to the students of Neva King Cooper on a needs basis throughout the year. Employee collections have helped to provide for hearing aids, wheelchairs, and diapers. This past Thanksgiving, employees collected 132 boxes of food to provide Thanksgiving dinners as well as disposable utensils and bibs to Neva King's most disadvantaged families.
