Rykodisc Releases Soundtrack of Showtime Hit Series "Weeds"

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 13, 2005 -- Leading independent label Rykodisc has released "Music From the Original Series Weeds," the soundtrack to Showtime's hot new series. Released in conjunction with Bulletproof Recording Company and executive produced by Ralph Sall ("Mean Girls," "Garfield," "Sahara"), "Weeds" features an arresting mix of buzzworthy artists including Sufjan Stevens, The New Pornographers, Nellie McKay and The Mountain Goats alongside tracks from artists ranging from Peggy Lee to Michael Franti & Spearhead. Also featured on the CD is the "Weeds" theme song, Malvina Reynolds' lost classic "Little Boxes" (originally recorded by Pete Seeger in 1964). Pixies guitarist Joey Santiago's two contributions, "Fake Purse" and "Birthday Video," are exclusive to the "Weeds" soundtrack.

Heralded as "...the best new show this season" by New York Post and "...the most talked about comedy in ages" by Newsweek, "Weeds" chronicles the life of a suburban widow (portrayed by Mary-Louise Parker) who makes ends meet by selling marijuana. The series airs on Showtime Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 10 PM EST and PST.
