Saab's Reputation for Quality, Efficiency and Economy Speaks for Itself, in African Business Review

NORWICH, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Apr 3, 2012) - Established in 1937, Sweden had a history of making planes for both Germany and the UK. Following the outbreak of the Second World War, Saab decided to start up its own aerospace manufacturing company, with the first aeroplane, designed in 1937, making its maiden flight in 1941. Over the company's extensive history, Saab has designed and manufactured more than 4000 aircraft; however only one remains in production; the JAS 39 Gripen, a fourth-generation fighter jet.

"Saab's Aerostructures operation was founded in 1997, based upon the experiences from designing and manufacturing the regional aircraft Saab340 and Saab2000," explains Magnus Falk, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Aerostructures. "We began to position ourselves as a potential supplier/partner to Boeing and Airbus. It was a logical step to take after the discontinuation of the production of the regional aircraft, which took place in 1997 after more than 15 years of production. Today we are proud to say that we have established ourselves as a tier-one partner to Airbus and Boeing, with design-to-build contracts on Cargo Doors for the B787 Program, Mid-Outer Leading Edge for the A380, Aileron Assemblies for the A320 program and the Crew Entrance Door for the A400M program, all on a risk/sharing basis."
