Sabtech Replaces Obsolete Legacy Military Printers With New Printer Interface Unit

YORBA LINDA, CA--(Marketwired - Oct 29, 2013) - Sabtech, an established leader in the Aerospace, Defense, Industrial and Telecommunications industry, today announces its new Printer Interface Unit™ (PIU) that allows any commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) printer to be used in place of a militarized PT-540 or compatible printer. The new PIU, which will be on display during MILCOM13 in booth #1509, saves users time and expense in having to support and maintain obsolete printers.

Designed for harsh military and industrial environments, Sabtech's PIU has passed U.S. military environmental qualification tests including shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, electromagnetic interference (EMI), airborne noise, altitude, and drip. Due to its readiness, the PIU has been selected to replace the PT-540 printer in the Aegis Operational Readiness Test System (ORTS). In this application, the PIU connects to the ORTS UYK-44 computer over the built-in MIL-STD-1397C NTDS parallel interface.

A PT-540 printer can be connected directly to the PIU via USB or the built-in Ethernet port, and can be located on a network with appropriate configuration. The PIU input power and data connectors are plug-compatible with those on the PT-540 printer, allowing existing cables to be easily connected. Power to the printer is provided from the PIU, eliminating the need to run any new cabling at the installation site. The PIU is a compact fanless unit that requires no periodic maintenance.
