SUGAR LAND, TX--(Marketwire - October 12, 2010) - Reported by Annette Kreuger, Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- SAFC-Jerusalem (Jerusalem), a division of Sigma-Aldrich Corporation (NASDAQ:SIAL) (St. Louis, Missouri) has just completed a $30 million investment to expand its contract manufacturing (CMO) facility in Jerusalem (source: Industrial Info's Pharmaceutical Tracker - Online Database). The focus of the 50,000-square-foot expansion is the niche fermentation of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and bulk drugs, producing high-potency APIs (HPAPI), secondary metabolites, cytotoxins, and large-molecule proteins. A 30,000-square-foot area of the new facility was designed to Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) standards, which will allow work with human pathogens.
