Safend Announces Safend Discoverer for Mac

Company Extends Award-Winning Data Protection Suite to Locate and Map Sensitive Data Stored on Macs in the Enterprise

PHILADELPHIA, PA and TEL AVIV, ISRAEL--(Marketwire - February 17, 2011) -  Safend, a leading provider of endpoint data protection and leakage prevention solutions, today announced Safend Discoverer for Mac, a new product in the Data Protection Suite that allows security administrators to locate sensitive data at rest, stored on Apple OS/X desktops and laptops.

Safend Discoverer for Mac is the latest tool in the Safend Data Protection Suite designed to deliver complete visibility, control and protection of Macs in the enterprise. The recently-released Safend Protector for Mac controls and generates audit logs for physical port access and removable device access to Leopard and Snow Leopard Macs, while enhancements to Safend Inspector enable it to block and log data leakage in specific Smartphone and Tablet synchronization programs, such as iTunes, using Safend's Content Aware Application Control Technology.

"Securing Apple devices for enterprises while enabling productivity has become paramount," said Edy Almer, vice president of Product Management at Safend. "Running in the background with minimal impact on productivity, Safend Discoverer for Mac allows companies to detect sensitive data stored primarily on Macs, such as video content or customer data. Safend Discoverer saves valuable time and improves efficiency by expertly mapping data and providing insight to unsecured data and faulty business processes. Armed with this information, administrators can then improve corporate security and compliance initiatives."

Safend Discoverer and Safend Discoverer for Mac help identify gaps in data protection and compliance initiatives, and provide insight into what policies should be implemented using other components of the Safend Data Protection Suite. Safend Discoverer provides multiple data identification techniques -- including key word and pattern recognition of file text and meta data and data fingerprinting -- which can be used individually or in combination to create actual data classifications.

"Macs are an increasing proportion of the enterprise endpoint populations -- fueled both by corporate issued adoption and continued consumerization," said Joshua Corman, research director for Enterprise Security at The 451 Group. "IT finds itself in the position of having to protect reluctant Mac users at comparable levels of capabilities as other machines throughout the enterprise. Endpoint security players need to step up and enable these businesses to protect sensitive data stored on Mac endpoints and ensure compliance with security policies."
