Sage Communications Supports GSA Initiative to Green the Federal Supply Chain

Washington, D.C. Metro Area Communications Firm Joins 60 Small Businesses to Step Toward a Smaller Carbon Footprint

VIENNA, VA--(Marketwire - November 16, 2010) - Sage Communications, one of the fastest growing, full-service marketing communications firms in Greater Washington, D.C., today announced it volunteered to participate in U.S. General Services Administration's (GSA's) Supplier Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Inventory pilot -- the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Climate Leaders program.

"It is imperative that we, as small businesses, learn how to collectively make a difference in the government's global footprint," said Len Johnson, President of Sage Communications Government Division. "We support GSA's commitment and its public-private collaborative, holistic approach to sustainability. As a firm that provides outreach and awareness services to government agencies under the GSA Schedules program, we have an obligation to serve as an industry leader in adopting sustainability best practices."

Spurred by President Obama's Executive Order 13514 on Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance, GSA's Office of Small Business Utilization and the Federal Acquisition Service have partnered to launch a pilot program to assist 60 small businesses in completing their GHG emissions inventories through EPA's Climate Leaders program.

The program, which kicks off today at the GreenGov Supply Chain Summit, hosted by the White House Council on Environmental Quality and GSA, will serve as a model to show the rest of the industry how to best implement a credible sustainability program. Leading the charge for change, Sage will set aggressive goals to decrease its carbon footprint and lower its energy bills over the next five to ten years.

Among other goals, the program will help Sage develop long-term comprehensive climate change strategies to reduce its company-wide GHG emissions by at least five percent in five years or achieve and sustain carbon neutrality for at least three years. Sage will be joined by a number of other local and national small businesses looking to go green alongside the Federal government.
