Sage Communications Taps Alix Shutello as Director of Publications Services

Web Publishing Expert to Launch New Publishing Division and Drive Market Development

VIENNA, VA--(Marketwire - October 18, 2010) -  Sage Communications, one of the fastest growing full-service marketing communications firms in Greater Washington, D.C. specializing in the technology, government and healthcare markets, today announced the appointment of Alix Shutello to Director of Publications Services. Ms. Shutello will oversee creative and market development for government, commercial, and association accounts and launch the company's new publishing division.

With more than 20 years of project management, sales and strategic communications experience, Ms. Shutello has worked for a variety of clients, including the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, FBI, SEC, National Institute of Health (NIH), World Bank, the Private Practice Section of the American Physical Therapy Association, the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, the National Institutes for the Blind and the Minority Corporate Council of America.

Most recently, Ms. Shutello served as account and publications director, editor and consultant for large-scale publication and Web development projects at EEI Communications, where she oversaw the development of magazines, books, annual reports and Web-based products for government and association organizations. For the Society for Technical Communication (STC), she managed the redesign and migration of its quarterly journal Technical Communication and monthly Intercom Magazine to accessible Web platforms, requiring the development of two individual websites for each publication.

A social media maven, Ms. Shutello advocates offering content online to provide readers easy access to information and establish open dialogue on a variety of subject matters. In 2008, she developed and launched www.RunnersIllustrated.com, a fully integrated social media network of communication for runners and fitness enthusiasts.

Prior to joining the publishing world, Ms. Shutello served as Communications Manager for The Wilderness Society's Natural Trails and Waters Coalition media and outreach campaign, as well as at the Sierra Club, where she managed press relations and community outreach for an urban sprawl campaign. She began her career in the marketing and advertising departments of TMP Worldwide and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Ms. Shutello holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Syracuse University and a master's degree in environmental science from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF).
