The Sagueneens Marks Veterans' Week With Minister Blackburn During a Ceremonial Puck Drop

CHICOUTIMI, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Nov. 14, 2010) - The Government of Canada has recently announced significant changes to improve care and support of Canada's Veterans and their families. Now, Canadians across the country are showing how they remember and honour our Veterans during Veterans' Week 2010, from November 5 to 11. On November 14, the Saguenéens de Chicoutimi and their fans attended a ceremonial puck drop with Veterans Affairs Minister, the Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn.

"Our government proudly supports Canada's Veterans throughout their military career, and at every stage of their lives. These brave men and women stood up for Canada and we are standing up for them," said the Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister of State (Agriculture). "It is our duty to remember and support them."

Minister Blackburn, who was accompanied by Mr. Adrien Boivin, a Second World War Veteran, Mr. Alain Villeneuve, a Canadian Forces Veteran and Ève Garant, a local Army Cadet, proceeded with the ceremonial puck drop early in the evening before the Saguenéens took on the Drummonville Voltigeurs. Fans at the George-Vézina Centre also took part in a brief commemorative ceremony to pay tribute to Canadian Veterans before the start of the game.
