Saint Ralph runs away with two DGC Awards

Attention: Arts/Entertainment Editor, Lifestyle Editor, Media Editor, News Editor TORONTO, ON--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 2, 2005) - The fourth annual Directors Guild of Canada Awards named winners in 20 individual and team categories, honouring the best work created by its members last year. The gala was held at Toronto's elegant event theatre, The Carlu.

The evening, which kicked off with a cocktail reception, was hosted by SCTV alumni Joe Flaherty and was attended by DGC members, actors from the nominated productions and producers of the nominated works. Actor Kiefer Sutherland was on hand to give out the DGC's Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented posthumously to director Daniel Petrie Sr. His family accepted the Award. Daniel Petrie Sr. is known for directing such TV movies as Sybil, Eleanor and Franklin and the movie Fort Apache, The Bronx. His autobiographical movie The Bay Boy brought Kiefer Sutherland his first major starring role.

The DGC's Distinguished Service Award was presented to Alan Erlich. Alan is a past-president of the DGC and continues to volunteer many hours to the Guild. He directed last year's DGC Awards and this year's as well.

Saint Ralph took top honours in Outstanding Achievement in Direction - Feature Film and in Outstanding Team Achievement in a Family Feature Film. Jerry Ciccoritti, upon receiving the award for Outstanding Achievement in Direction, TV Movie for Lives of the Saints, noted this award always means so much to him as it is determined and awarded by his peers.

DGC team awards are given to all DGC members working in Guild categories on the winning productions. The craft awards are presented to individual members for outstanding achievement. The winners of the 2005 DGC Awards are:
